After all the festivities we’ve had in December, it’s high time to think about our healthy habits. Staying fit as a mom can be challenging and hard sometimes, but with some planning and dedication — still achievable. The main things are persistence and consistency.
Here are some tips to incorporate in your new daily routine:
Set realistic goals
Don’t promise yourself to stop eating chocolate at once. Do it slowly. Define what fitness means for you and what you expect from it: losing weight, gaining endurance or just toning muscles. Make sure you set achievable milestones to keep you motivated and inspired.
Incorporate Exercise In Your Routine
At Home: Home workouts might be very effective, especially, when you don’t have that much time to go to the gym. Use videos online and search for quick workouts to do at home.
Get your Family Down to Business: Don’t train alone. Engage your kids and husband in joint activities: hiking, skiing, riding a bicycle, jogging, making yoga, swimming etc. You’ll see that it’s not only keeps you and your family fit but also makes you more close to each other.
The rule of 20 minutes: 10-15-20 minutes of sports are better than nothing. So try to find this time to just be on track and not break the habit.
Strength training
Include strength training 2-3 times per week. You can do squats or push-ups everywhere and you don’t necessarily need equipment.
Stay Active and Hydrated throughout a day
Take the stairs instead of the elevator, move energetically when cleaning or go for a walk during. Track the amount of water you consume to feel more active and fresh.
Focus on nutrition
Prepare healthy meals and snacks for you and your children. Add more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains to your diet.
Listen to your body
Rest, when you want to rest and don’t push yourself too hard, especially in your post pregnancy period.
Stay flexible
Life is like a wheel, meaning, that sports is just one of the sides. So don’t concentrate on it too much. If some plans require change and you have to cancel or postpone it, it’s ok. Consistency is the key, but being flexible is important too.
Celebrate Your Progress
Acknowledge your achievements, even the smallest and notice your small steps.
By intergrating those steps. you will stay fit and toned while balancing on demands of your motherhood.
