Years go by, everything changes from politics to trends and, of course, content. Yet, art often remains just as relevant and beautiful as it was decades ago. Many would argue that this is the true mark of a masterpiece and the success of its creator. Cinema is no exception, and Vanilla Sky is a perfect example.

More than 20 years after its release this film, telling the story of a successful man who seemingly has it all, still resonates deeply. Tom Cruise’s character, David, has his world turned upside down after a horrific car accident leaves him with a disfigured face, plunging him into a waking nightmare.

His once-glamorous life now feels like a distant dream as he desperately searches for the truth: what is real and what is illusion? And soon, he begins to realize that everything happening to him is not just a coincidence.

The film explores themes of control over one’s own fate, showing how every person shapes their own reality whether in relationships, career or even their perception of the people around them. After all, the world is a mirror; the only question is what do you see in its reflection? And more importantly, are you satisfied with it?

Today, the idea of breaking free from illusions is more relevant than ever. Many people, for various reasons, may resist fully immersing themselves in reality, refusing to accept it as it is. But then again what if reality is only what you choose to believe in? These eternal questions remain a mystery, much like life itself.
In the end, what truly matters is knowing what you want and, perhaps, being honest with yourself. Only then can you truly wake up, just as Vanilla Sky reminds us. Beyond its captivating story, the film also boasts an incredible cast, many of whom are still major stars in Hollywood today.
So, what will you choose? To watch the film or to stay exactly where you were when you started reading this?
