Hollywood passion projects tend to fall into one of two categories: they either smash the box office and earn immense audience respect or sadly become colossal failures, sinking careers and even entire studios.
Over the past decade South Korean director Bong Joon-ho has become one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed filmmakers, especially after the success of Parasite (2019), as well as “Okja”, “Snowpiercer” and many other brilliant works.

The Oscar-winning craftsman began developing his new film, “Mickey-17”, in 2022. Set in a dystopian future, the story follows a young man who signs a contract with the government, agreeing to undertake dangerous missions. The catch? If he dies, they simply create a new copy of him — a clone who wakes up and continues the job as if it’s just another day of going to work.

The concept is incredibly original, especially for Hollywood, which isn’t exactly overflowing with fresh ideas. That’s where international filmmakers like Bong Joon-ho come in to shake things up. According to various reports, the studio wasn’t entirely pleased with the film and even wanted to reshoot some scenes. However, Bong stood his ground.

Early reviews have been stellar, with critics praising the screenplay, Bong’s signature directing style, and, of course, the incredible cast. The director is well known for packing his films with star power. “Mickey-17” is now available to watch. So what do you think about the contract offered to the protagonist, and whould you sign it?
