In 2016 I became a Manual QA Engineer. I was searching for my first job for approximately three months. Nobody wanted to invite me to the interviews. And how can actually a girl with linguistic education be good at something technical and logical?
Since 2016 I’ve changed four different IT companies. Finally, I became Automation QA Engineer and earned the money that covered all my desires and wishes but I stopped six months ago and don’t wanna go back to the office again. I’m trying to create something new.
During the last four companies I’ve learned some lessons:
- Ask about overtimes at the interviews.
- From the first day show that you respect your time and would want everybody else to respect your space and working hours as well (if you don’t do it, they will interrupt you whenever they want which will decrease your focus and productivity).
- Don’t be afraid or ashamed to be yourself, in the end, everybody will respect you not for the things you’ve done for them but for your job so grow professionally.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for anything because nobody will tell you what benefits you really can get until you ask.
- Don’t be afraid to be different. 93% percent of people do what everybody else does, be this 7%.
- Learn how to say no and practice it often.
- Be honest with yourself, requirements, and others.
The hardest part for me was to say ‘No’.
These books changed my attitude to this a lot :
“Getting to Yes”
“The Power of a Positive No”
“Getting Past No”
